Mother's Day and Thanks Mom Campaign - National Marrow Donor Program

During the two weeks surrounding Mother's Day, the National Marrow Donor Program is hoping to register at least 46,000 marrow donor's across the country. Usually there is a fee to sign up due to the marrow processing, but during this time they are waiving the fee.

I urge each and every one of you that reads my blog to register, which you can do so by clicking here. You have no idea how many lives can be saved by this simple gift. On any given day, more than 6,000 men, women and children are searching the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Registry for a life-saving donor like you. These patients have leukemia, lymphoma and other life-threatening diseases that can be treated by a bone marrow or cord blood transplant. For many of these patients, a transplant may be the best and only hope of a cure.

After working for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for a few years prior to giving birth to Caroline, I saw first hand the need for such donors. We had so many children who needed bone marrow transplants in order to survive. Many did. Many did not. It is up to us as citizens of this country to help others, and I hope that you all will register.
